Remarks on an overdetermined boundary value problem

چکیده
We modify and extend proofs of Serrin’s symmetry result for overdetermined boundary value problems from the Laplace-operator to a general quasilinear operator and remove a strong ellipticity assumption in [9] and a growth assumption in [5] on the diffusion coefficient A, as well as a starshapedness assumption on Ω in [4]. On an Eighth Order Overdetermined Elliptic Boundary Value Problem
We consider the overdetermined boundary value problem for the 4-harmonic operator, Δ4 = Δ(Δ3) , and show that if the solution of the problem exists, then the domain must be an open N -ball (N 2) . As a consequence of overdetermined problems mean value results are obtained for harmonic, biharmonic, triharmonic and 4-harmonic functions. متن کاملOverdetermined Boundary Value Problems, Quadrature Domains and Applications
We discuss an overdetermined problem in planar multiply connected domains Ω. This problem is solvable in Ω if and only if Ω is a quadrature domain carrying a solid-contour quadrature identity for analytic functions. At the same time the existence of such quadrature identity is equivalent to the solvability of a special boundary value problem for analytic functions. We give a complete solution o...
متن کاملAn Inverse Boundary Value Problem for the Heat Equation: the Neumann Condition
We consider the inverse problem to determine the shape of an insulated inclusion within a heat conducting medium from overdetermined Cauchy data of solutions for the heat equation on the accessible exterior boundary of the medium. For the approximate solution of this ill-posed and nonlinear problem we propose a regularized Newton iteration scheme based on a boundary integral equation approach f...
متن کاملAn Overdetermined Problem for an Elliptic Equation
We consider the following overdetermined boundary value problem: ∆u+ λu+ μ = 0 in Ω, u = 0 on ∂Ω and ∂u/∂n = c on ∂Ω, where c 6= 0, λ and μ are real constants and Ω ⊂ R is a smooth bounded convex open set. We first show that it may happen that the problem has no solution. Then we study the existence of solutions for a wide class of domains. 2010 Mathematics Subject Classification: 35J05, 35R30.
متن کاملRecovering the conductances on grids
In this work, we present an algorithm to the recovery of the conductance of a n–dimensional grid. The algorithm is based in the solution of some overdetermined partial boundary value problems defined on the grid; that is, boundary value problem where the boundary conditions are set only in a part of the boundary (partial), and moreover in a fix subset of the boundary we prescribe both the value...
